Save Our Necks Prevails in Court (June 3, 2007)
Judge Tyler sided with SONs on the Motion to Strike the County's response to our lawsuit regarding arbitrary Planning Commission appointments. Over 90% of the citizens of Accomack County agree that taking legal action is sometimes necessary to get responsible government, according to our survey results. Meanwhile, Supervisors Thornton and Hart provided the county with a textbook case of irresponsible government last week. This came complete with a public display of aggression in the local newspaper, as Supervisor Thornton attempted to silence Ms. Lois Cooper for highlighting, in a previous letter to the editor, the shenanigans of Hart and Thornton on School budgetary issues. Supervisor Mallette was outraged as much by the strong arm tactics displayed by Thornton as by the budgetary sleight-of-hand of Thornton and Hart. Other citizens responded anonymously, possibly fearing rough treatment from their County Supervisors. This is a sad commentary, given the fact that Mr. Hart attended the first organizational meeting of SONs almost two years ago and pleaded with us to get involved and speak our minds. Hmmm.
