Welcome to the new home for SONs (March 18, 2007)

Since our beginnings in October 2005, Save Our Necks has grown to represent concerned citizens in every corner of Accomack County. We have recently reorganized so as to more effectively pursue our expanded mission of responsible growth and leadership, with the aim of influencing the County elections in November. To that end, we are hosting thoughtful discussions among citizens on many topics that pertain to our mission. Isabella Hopkins begins a discussion this week on strategies to hold our ground and preserve what we cherish. Joe Bongiovanni explains why we must manage our groundwater as a critical resource. Wesley Edwards raised some issues concerning responsible government and equality of services at the Board of Supervisors last week, and we expect the ensuing discussion to be lively.

Many of you have heard in the press about the lawsuit SONs has filed with the County. Our President, George Parker, explains why we had to bring this legal action in an effort to ensure that the laws are applied to all equally and not arbitrarily at the whim of individual supervisors or other county officials. Read how the county is wasting your tax dollars in a meaningless response.

Did you know that 81% of the respondents to our survey last June thought that the Board of Supervisors had been remiss in not implementing ordinances for the comprehensive plan and therefore should be voted out of office? We value your opinions on all of these issues and have created a survey to collect your opinions so we can present them in a objective manner. Please take a moment to answer a few survey questions and we will present the results in a later message.

We hope you'll continue to check frequently for updates, and feel free to contact us using our new feedback form to make inquiries, to join a discussion thread, and to offer suggestions. To receive email notices when we add new content, give us your email address in the contact us page and ask to be added to our list in the comments box. We will respect your time and NOT email you unless you opt in.

Finally, we note that our continuing efforts to inform and influence on your behalf means that we have advertising, legal, and Web maintenance expenses and thus we need your continued support.

Please consider a donation to SONs.

Respectfully yours,

Tony Picardi
