McCaleb Wins as SONs Girds for Important Initiatives in 2008
(December 2, 2007)

Phil McCaleb wins in District 9

As most of you know by now, the Supervisor candidate endorsed by SONs in District 9, Phil McCaleb, won on November 6th in an intense electoral race. Mr. McCaleb thanks all of you that supported him and SONs says thanks to the legions of supporters that helped to pull off this election upset. Your Executive Committee is hopeful that, with the addition of McCaleb to the Board of Supervisors, the voting deadlock that has prevented the County from responsible growth and government will be broken. SONs will be monitoring the votes of the Board. Your help in attending Supervisor meetings (6:00 PM-9:00 PM, Parksley Elementary School, the third Wednesday of every month from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM) and Planning Commission meetings (7:00 PM-9:00 PM at Metompkin Elementary School, the second Wednesday of every month) is requested. Members are advised to check the County Calendar to confirm meetings before driving, as they have a tendency to shift dates and venues randomly.

The Draft Comprehensive Plan will be reveled.

Please plan to attend at least one of the public hearings on the draft comprehensive plan to be held at Nandua and Arcadia Middle schools at 7 pm on December 11th and 12th respectively. The plan can be read and downloaded, one chapter at a time, complete with all the maps by clicking here. Spend a little time before hand and read at least parts of this document. There has been a lot of time and effort involved in its making. You bought it. It is and will be yours.

SONs formulating strategy.

In the weeks to come, your Executive Committee will be prioritizing issues that SONs members need to pay attention to and support in the coming year. Topping the agenda, of course, is the passage of a Comprehensive Plan that can serve as the basis for preserving groundwater and our rural community while building the infrastructure we need to live healthy and safe lives. This includes but is not limited to traffic, public safety and fire, sewage, solid waste, and our famous roadside litter. Watch this space for a announcement of a public discussion meeting.
