The Time Has Come to Speak and be Heard!
(October 1, 2007)

This is it! The debates between the candidates are on!

In a final paroxysm of democratic fervor, SONs members must take multiple opportunities in October to make themselves heard in multiple venues and times. Click through to the calendar to see the dates, times and places. All candidates from the southern districts have been invited to the CBES forum on October 9th. The two candidates from District 9 will face off in a debate on October 25th. Plan to attend both and ask questions. And then vote on November 6th for a slate of supervisors that stand for responsible growth and leadership. This is what SONs has been about for the past 3 years. Your future is literally at stake – read on!

New York Times Article Paints Eastern Shore as Low Hanging Fruit

A recent New York Times article singled out the Delmarva Peninsula and the Eastern Shore as low hanging fruit – the last places on the East Coast where people from crowded East Coast cities can still buy a home in a peaceful rural community for under $250,000. This is very affordable housing for the millions of soon-to-be-retirees from the likes of Baltimore, New York, Washington, and Philadelphia. If you cringe at the notion of “Condos-on-Creeks-R-US”, then read this and become part of the solution – vote for responsible government on November 6th.

Speaking of responsible leadership, SONs has filed a motion for summary judgment in our lawsuit to get Accomack to follow the laws of Virginia in appointing people to Boards and Commissions.

SONs Opinion Survey – A Milestone in Representative Government

In a recent article the Eastern Shore News noted that SONs was the first grass roots organization in Accomack County to take on the cause of responsible government. If you have not reviewed the candidates’ responses to our survey click here. This effort has produced a record number of hits on our web site, proving that your contributions have been well-spent. You have enabled a higher level of communication and have been the catalyst for CBES and the press to get involved in shining lights on the issues.

SONs Site Shows Subdivisions, Solutions, and Sensitive Secrets

For those of you that have not taken a low flying plane around the county, the link on the home page, Why We Care, is a new photo gallery. Clicking through this gallery, you get annotated graphic detail about why we need to extend the Chesapeake Bay Act to the sea side to protect sensitive wetlands that are even now under siege. You also see some examples of rural settlements that are poster villages as well as some subdivisions that have been dropped into soybean fields from Mars. Let us hear what you think about these photos.
